O’Connor breaks program, ODAC pole vault records at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina – Senior Joe O’Connor (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) led Washington and Lee’s men’s track team performance in Saturday’s Mount Olive First Chance meet with a new schedule and ODAC record.

The highlights of the meeting:

-O’Connor posted 5.05m (16’6.75″) in the pole vault to take first place in the event. His mark of 5.05m is also good for a new record of the ODAC, surpassing the previous conference record of 5.02 m (16’6.00″) set by Andy Rollins of Lynchburg in 2007. O’Connor now holds the program and the ODAC indoor and outdoor pole vault records .

-Sophomore Zach Moore (Advance, NC/Forsyth Country Day School) competed in the 800m, where he placed second in 1:57.37, while junior Doug Dragon (Matthews, NC/Weddington) posted a third-place finish in the 400m in 49.16.

-First year Jaylen Day (Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md./Harve de Grace) rounded out the Top 5 finishers for W&L, as he came fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.66).
