GUI is an acronym for Graphical User Interface. The most basic definition would probably be "a human-to-computer interface, combining the graphical-mode display of text, pictures and geometry with the input from keyboard and some kind of pointing device ( i. e. mouse, trackball, input pad )"

However, more commonly GUI is understood as Microsoft Windows - style display and control of applications, each one obligatory having a "window" with "menus", "buttons", "toolbars" etc. which are interactively navigated by using mouse clicks and keyboard shortcuts.
