Foresight Linux is a Linux distribution comprising free and non-free software with the stated goal of showcasing the latest in Linux desktop software. The operating system was selected by Shuttle Inc. for their new light-weight KPC system, onto which Foresight Linux will be pre-installed.
Foresight Linux features the GNOME desktop environment, and has tracked GNOME development closely. The distribution imported every GNOME release since 2.10 on the day each was released.
Foresight Linux features the Conary software packaging system. This system only updates those specific files in packages which need to be updated, in contrast to other formats, such as the RPM and DEB formats, which download whole packages.
The latest version is 2.0, including GNOME 2.22.0 as the default desktop environment. It is available as two-CD or one-DVD install media (foresight-2.0-x86) and a LiveCD.(The LiveCD takes the version number of the GNOME release.)
Foresight Linux 2 will include GNOME, KDE and Xfce editions; and an x86-64 version. The GNOME version was released on 2008-03-12.
