APIC
From TheLinuxVault
Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller, or APIC, is a Programmable Interrupt Controller that is more complex in its architecture than normal PICs. The newer Intel APIC Architecture is currently replacing the 8259A PIC in newer x86 PCs.
When booting a Linux distro like Ubuntu, APIC and LAPIC tend to be a installation-stalling problem. They can be disabled by pressing F6 at the boot splash screen, then typing "noapic nolapic" and pressing "Enter" or "Return".
